The third race of the Astley Park series took place on Wednesday evening and a huge contingent of Burndeners were there to tick off both a Club and an Off-Road Championship race.

SPOTTING SCARECROWS IN BLACKROD
The inaugural Blackrod Scarecrow 10K is a local race which attracted several members to its course this week. Brand new and full of fun (and scarecrows!), it is linked to the village’s annual Scarecrow Festival. A beautiful and mixed terrain route, follows 4 flattish or downhill miles before finishing with a slog of 2 miles uphill.
Just five Burnden crows settled at the finish with Ian Pudge first to land in 43:28 and 2nd MV50. Pecking at his heels were Gayle Gerrard in 53:51, Craig Philpot - 57:18 and Kris Worsley - 57:21. Mark Merrick took 3rd MV60 in 57:35.
TAYLOR WOMBLING AWAY
In the home of the Wombles again, but unfortunately without a glimpse of the furry creatures, was Tim Taylor running the 8 miles on Wimbledon Common. Adventure and challenge are the names of this race game and the course is a delightful mix of bogs, bubbling brooks and tricky bits. Tim, just a week after completing Ironman 70.3, finished in a womble-tastic 1 hour 11 minutes.
