JUST ONE MILE BUT TONS OF SMILES!

Last Monday saw Rivington swamped with Burndeners as the usual training night was swapped for a mile challenge through the woods.

This challenge formed part of the both the Club Championship and the Virtual Challenge Championship and welcomed both old and brand-new members to join together. Runners were set off in two waves – split alphabetically by surname – and cheered home after the one-lap loop. Chair Andy Dunleavy and Tech Guru, Lawrence McDonald, managed the timing and members not running were on hand to marshall.

THIS IS THE ONE! BURNDEN SLIDE AWAY AT MANCHESTER’S PARTY

The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run brings tens of thousands to running in what is described as ‘the original and best-loved running event’ for its start to finish Mancunian party ‘Atmosphere’.

Centrally located in the city, the half marathon and 10K races take runners around the city’s iconic landmarks including the two football stadiums of Old Trafford and the Etihad.

Burnden’s ‘Wonderwalls’ were many in number this year – with Katherine Baines and Tom Stratton racing for MMU’s Team Orange, Louise Righini and Megan Lord running to support friends and, in her very first Half Marathon, Natasha Clarke who was running for charity Beat and fundraising with her sister, Sian who ran Manchester Marathon earlier this year. Together the sisters have raised over £1,300 for the eating disorder charity via their Just Giving page below.

Showcasing an ‘Oasis’ of ‘Supernova’ times with several PBs, here are the Burnden results for the Half Marathon event and the 10K.

Half Marathon - Michael Kermode – 1:31:30, Dean Covill – 1:44:55, Linda Doherty – 1:49:41, Jessica Lee – 1:53:28, Steven Walsh – 1:53:52 (PB), Nicola Halsall – 2:07:14 (PB), Natasha Clarke – 2:12:44 (PB),
