Member Spotlight - Gareth Doherty

Updated: Nov 1

This month, it's our mens captain's turn to share with us all about his running experience and what inspired him to start running.

How long have you been a member of Burnden Road Runners?

Since September 2016

When and why did you first start running?

Linda was the runner. She eventually talked me into going with her. I bought the cheapest running gear thinking there's no way I'll be keeping this up. 10 years later I'm still running.

Proudest running achievement to date?

That's a tough one. Winning the 2023 Off Road championship was special. Or being asked to be a Run Director for Bolton Parkrun.

Favourite race and why?

Any trail race. I found a love for the fells last year. Edenfield was brilliant although I know some in the club will disagree.

Have you set any short or long term goals?

This summer I'm focusing on The Lakesman Triathlon, so building up my distances in the 3 disciplines including the half marathon.

What do you find most challenging?

Long, flat road races.

Best tip or advice for others?

Enjoy running. Take the pressure off yourself to achieve certain times and just run.

Anything else you would like to share?

Joining Burnden was the best thing Linda and myself ever did. You're all amazing.

If you would like to be selected to be our member in the spotlight please complete the questionnaire here you could be featured next month.
