Member Spotlight - Lee White

For December, our spotlight member of the month: Lee White. Lee has been an invaluable member of our club for over 14 years.

During his time at the club, Lee has served as the men's captain, led our Monday evening training sessions, and volunteered as an England Athletics Mental Health Champion.

How long have you been a member of Burnden Road Runners?

14 years

When and why did you first start running?

It was the next thing to try at a local gym, liked the idea of social exercise.

Proudest running achievement to date?

Too many to share tbh, Burnden wise seeing so many at 24 hour endurance events such as Endure...I think we had upto 40 members there. We even got a podium finish. Personally competing my first ever Marathon in my first(2011)year as a club runner.
Favourite race and why?
Warrington half Marathon. Was part of the club champs one particular year, and I found myself running as part of a Burnden foursome for the best part of 9miles, eye balls out for most of it, yet great encouragenent between us, smiles and laughter too.. just what club running is about.

Have you set any short or long term goals?

Not really, which sounds a bit naff but having suffered my worst injury to date early in the year I guess just getting back to full fitness is a start. However I do have my eye on a couple of 10mile and a half marathon this year ...

What do you find most challenging?

Sticking to a training plan, too many choices and differing advice given. Not least my own ideas...so I generally put them all together and come up with something in-between

Best tip or advice for others?

Not the above.. lol. No but seriously first and foremost enjoy running, enjoy races and feed off other runners. It's a great hobby we have and being around so many great people . We are so lucky. So stick at it even when you don't really feel like doing .
