Member spotlight - Philip Glassbrook



Its no joke, this months feature member is our popular and ever present Philip Glassbrook, always there to provide a smile from one of his jokes.


How long have you been a member of Burnden Road Runners?

11 years

When and why did you first start running?

Age 40, when i gave up tennis. I used to play in mixed leagues for St Thomas Tennis Club and was the first to win all 3 trophies: Mixed League, Mens and the Cecil Cup Trophy. Due to the travel involved with tennis, i switched to running on my own.



Proudest running achievement to date?

Ben Nevis in 1984- in 2hrs 11 (1hr 36 ascent, 35 mins down!) Also the 3 Peaks and London Marathon in 1984. Finished London in 3hrs 12. Did the 3 Towers in 2hrs 36 - 24 miles in hailstone then a bit of sun later on!

Favourite race and why?

Rivington races /Fell/ Leo Pollard type races. Edenfield! Like the effort it takes and the views.

Have you set any short or long term goals?

Keep going! Keep the same level of interest. Lots of good people to support.

What do you find most challenging?

Nothing. Road races - dull! Still do them.

Best tip or advice for others?

Keep turning up. Run more than once a week. Join our Club! Listen to advice given.
