With a top turnout of 231 runners, the return of the Trotters 5 saw tons of trainers pounding through the trails this weekend. Burnden’s very own race, its name a nod to its BWFC roots, brought a trough full of tremendous efforts with first place going to Swinton’s Dominic Wynn in 29:31.
March sunbeams made a welcome arrival and, though nippy, it was a lot drier than last year’s mudfest where several runners had their trainers squelched off!
Racers were challenged by a series of undulations around the course, which gives beautiful views of the historic Smithills Hall and a winding journey around the surrounding woodland. Hordes of happy runners, multiple marvellous marshalls, phenomenal photographs and brand new buffs made it a day to remember for the Club
Despite having a sty full of marshalls, there was an impressive number of runners representing Burnden – 54 in total.
The first Burnden runner’s time was not to be snuffled at as congratulations went to Andrew Horrocks who finished in a brilliant 35:55. Tom Stratton was next home in 36:33 and Steve Nolan completed the top trio in 38:03.
First Burnden Lady was Lyndsay Darbyshire in 41:50 followed by Anne Ferguson in 45:04 and Emma Beasley in 45:32.
