WATTON A PERFORMANCE! BURNDEN ARE TOP 8 AND SARAH IS 1ST LADY

Burnden Road Runners were leading the way when it came to the Club Championship race at Team Deane Triathlon Club on Saturday. Incredibly, the first 8 runners home all wore Burnden colours and the first lady home also sported the black stripe. In addition, Burnden swept up when it came to the Vet Categories with almost all of the 1st place categories going to the Club.

Engaged pair Sarah Watton and Jonathan Sangster made headlines as they finished first lady and first man respectively with outstanding times.

The speedy twosome were mentioned on the website, Fast Running, in their round up of the week’s swiftest UK times. Jonathan won the race outright in an astonishing 36:09 and has the honour of an engraved plaque from the Team Deane Triathlon Club. Sarah led the ladies home in an impressive 41:59.

The race starts from Chew Moor and leads runners along the Middlebrook Trail before returning. The bar was set high for the Club as, not only was it a Club Championship race this year, but it was also won in 2023 by Captain Andy Dunleavy.

WOWING AT WORSLEY WOODS

Burnden were back on the trails at the Worsley Woods 5 Mile the day after clearing up at Team Deane. The race, organised by Swinton Running Club, is a beautiful woodland trail route, which uses part of the parkrun course but ventures deeper into the woods.

This time it was Suleman Badat is first Club position, 1st MV45 and 8th overall as he finished in a swift 31:30. Next was Michael Kermode in 34:07 and Mark Cannon with 2nd MV60 in 34:45. First MV70 was Paul Christie in 40:45.

Gwen Kinloch led the ladies home from this race as 2nd FV60 in 37:51 followed by Lyndsay Darbyshire as 1st FV55 in 38:07. Third lady was Vicki Hamer with 1st FV35 in 39:44. First FV65 was Anne Ferguson in 42:05.

Here are the other great results from Worsley Woods.

BELTING BIT OF CRAIC FOR TONY

Tony Fulop was over on the Emerald Isle and slipped in a Half Marathon on his holiday. The Moy Park Belfast City Half welcomes around 6600 runners from all over and leads from Stormont and finishing in Ormeau Park, taking in all four areas of the city. Tony thoroughly enjoyed the craic and crossed the line in 2:47:57.

RILEY’S ROBIN HOOD ADVENTURE

On the streets of Nottingham, not far from Sherwood Forest, an arrow was in full flight. Tess Riley joined the Merry Men and Women as they took on the challenge of the Robin Hood Half Marathon. Starting at Victoria Embankment, the course is a picturesque journey along the River Trent and past some of Nottingham’s best known sights including Nottingham Castle, the Robin Hood Statue, through the Park Estate and Wollaton Park with the chance of seeing roaming deer, before returning to the Victoria Embankment Recreation Ground.

Tess made Robin and Little John proud as she crossed in a very respectable 2:22:00.

TRUDGE THROUGH THE FUDGE FOR THE MARLANDS

In addition to their weekly parkrun, Simon and Sue Marland took on a bit of a different challenge this week. Joining in the brilliantly-named ‘Autumn Fudge Trudge’, the couple were anything but trudging along the beautiful Saltaire canal. Also taking in the Bingley Five Rise Locks, the 10K is one of the popular Sir Titus Trot races. The couple finished the trudge in a fudge-alicious 1:10:45.
